Roll Top Desk

I need to take more time out to blog. I have done so many cool things in the past few weeks and I am just NOW trying to find the time to post them all. I will start with a roll top desk I did for my neighbor, Rhianna. I picked up what I consider to be a very ugly roll top desk. I do not know what possessed me to pick it up, but I did. It was in excellent condition and what I liked the most about it was that it had no varnish or laminate on it. It was solid wood with stain and no top coat! For a functional piece of furniture, that is not good; however, for me, it meant very little steps and a wonderful base color for distressing!

Isn't she lovely?!

I wanted to do something fun and a little playful with the piece. I chose turquoise and cream as my colors. Initially, this piece was not intended for anyone in particular; however, my neighbor, Rhianna, saw the turquoise and had to have it. It is always fun to have a person in mind when doing a piece, because I can then try to customize it to make it suit her style. When it came time for the drawer pulls, I did not want to do anything ordinary; nor did I want to replace them. So, I scoured my fabrics and found a great print to go with the overall look and feel. I then used the fabric to cover the pulls.

Overall, I think this desk is super charming and a little quirky and a lot fantastic! What do you think?

  1. Clever drawer pull solution. Wondered where you might have found such cute and unusual pulls.

    1. Thank you very much! It was fun to do. I will be posting a DIY as to how to cover the pulls in fabric. Thank you for stopping by!
