Retro Redesign

I picked up this step table a looooooonnnggggg time ago and had been sitting on it wondering what the heck to do with it. My process is simple: I stare at a piece and  then, poof, I get an idea. Usually, the idea then morphs into something a little different along the way. But this guy, oh...this guy, I had NO idea what to do with him! So he sat and sat and sat and then finally, DING! DING! DING! I say to myself, 'self, I will modernize this retro thing and make it fabulous!'

I had some mismatched paint laying around that I was dying to use. Have I told you that I hoard mismatched paint like I need it for the apocalypse? It is true. I see it, I want it, I buy it. I justify it because the cans are usually $2.50 or less. But, me thinks that the $2.50 adds up over time... Oh well! I love paint and I will always use it. I digress. This retro piece needed a little sanding and wood filling; however, it was in great condition.

I painted it and was happy, but wanted it to have a little more of something. So, I decided to glaze the piece. See how to achieve this look here. I then had some brass knobs laying around that I used instead of the original knobs.

I love love love this look! It adds a modern twist to a retro piece. What do you think of the redesign?
